Stress Busters - Tips from the Paradoctor

Kicking Stress out the door!

Next time you are feeling stressed you will always know in the back of your mind that the problem is not as bad as it seems and your subconscious will remind you, keep you calm with a positive outlook.

From time to time we all suffer with stress – physical, emotional or psychological. How many people actually know how to deal with stress and beat it?

You will be advised by others (friends, family, and associates) to “think positive”. Great advice, but if you don’t know do not know what is causing the stress in the first place it may be of no use.

1Relax

  • Take a deep breath, find some quiet time in a calm and relaxed environment when you can think the problem through
  • Problems often become exaggerated in our own minds because we don’t give enough time to break them down and try to resolve them.

The brain is the most powerful instrument in the human body. It controls our body but also controls what is going on around us. If we are thinking negatively and feeling stressed, we will be emitting huge amounts of negative energy. When we start to relax and think positively, we will start to emit positive energy and positive things will start to happen.

    2Break it down!

  • Do not try to think of all your problems as one big problem – it is like trying to eat a whole elephant at once – impossible! It will aggravate stress and anxiety.
  • Break down the problem or issue into much smaller pieces. By trying to understand the problem, you will find a solution!

    Example

Let’s say you have some financial problems. Start to think of the worst possible things that could happen with the current situation. Make a list. Then for each scenario, try to think of a small sacrifices or adjustments that you could make that might alleviate the problem. Talk to people – close friends or financial advisors to get their ideas and suggestions. No matter how drastic and how dismal it may seem to you, there are solutions.

3Visualise a Positive Outcome and Act

    • Visualize the best possible outcomes if you made those small sacrifices or adjustments. Visualise being able to pay off that loan, or being able to repair your washing machine.
    • Hold onto those thoughts and make them into a positive action plan – start to think positively about the problem. Make a note of the actions. Using visualisation in this way, will promote positive thinking automatically. By the end of the week, you will have more money in your pocket! Without thinking about it, you will have started to make those small sacrifices…….
    • So here you are. You have just come back from your summer holiday and you have to get back to the grindstone. You hit the office desk and are faced with a huge in tray piled up to the ceiling. You can look at it and get completely stressed, undoing all the good the holiday has just done you, or you can relax, pace yourself, pick up the first file, read it, visualise a positive outcome and start to deal with it.
