I’m taking us to new heights in this Ab Attack Session with some nice Russian Power twists as I call them. This is a great exercise for balance as well as firing in all aspects of the abdominals.

If you have been following my Ab Attacks, then you will find at least five great tummy exercises that you can do for a great structured tummy workout.

Remember as the week’s progress I will be including new exercises for different parts of the body and eventually in time you will have your own mini circuit that you can do in the comfort of your own home.

Don’t forget the diet is key for fuelling your body for energy and when you combine the right calorie controlled diet with the right exercise plan you will begin to achieve that all important lifestyle change.

The Fifth Ab Attack Exercise - Russian Power Twists

Start by sitting on a comfy surface (preferably a matt), back straight and knees bent in front of you with feet on the floor. Clasp your hands together and take the arms out forward inline with your chest. (Do not lock the elbows, have a slight bend in the arms).

From here lean back to as close to 45degrees as you can or until you feel the stomach start to contract to help support you. (its fine if toes lift off the floor but keep heels in contact with the floor)

Now keeping your arms straight with hands together and always in line with the centre of your chest – twist to one side and then straight to the other.

Progression

To add intensity to this exercise you can try the twists with your legs raised off the ground. Still have them bent and still only lean back to a 45degree angle. I would recommend trying this progression after you can comfortably do the basic twists for 1 minute with no sign of fatigue or losing posture.

This exercise can be for any fitness level and as you improve you can extend the time you do the exercise for or the amount of reps that you do.

Just remember a healthy body means a longer happier healthier life.

Quick Tip!

Always follow your hands with your head and imagine you have a long pole that is connected to your chest and your hands. This will make sure that you are twisting through the full range of motion with your body and not just moving your arms.
