Just 50p. per person would go a long way to help!
Lee Latchford Evans, former Steps star and now celebrity personal trainer is running the Virgin London Marathon 2010 for The Outward Bound Trust. After visiting The Trust’s Aberdovey centre in Snowdonia in November 2009 and seeing the impact of the work The Trust does with young people,
“We are always hearing on the news about child obesity and couch potatoes children who are spending too much time indoors, hooked up to video games” says Lee. “From seeing first-hand the work done at The Outward Bound Trust and through my own knowledge of personal fitness, I strongly believe that they can help these children to realise their potential and teach them the joys of learning in the great outdoors. I am really proud to be running for such a great charity and I hope to exceed my target of £10,000.”
By taking on this challenge, Lee is facing his fears and learning to overcome the unknown. This is something that many of the 25,000 financially disadvantaged young people who come through The Outward Bound Trust centres each year, face on a regular basis. The money raised by Lee will help around 54 young people to realise their potential through learning and adventure in the outdoors.
Lee is writing a blog on his marathon experience, which he is sharing with the other 119 Outward Bound runners and readers of his fitness website Famouslyfit.com. In the 10 years since Steps split up, Lee has established himself as a personal trainer and now regularly contributes his knowledge to Famouslyfit.com
More About the Trust

The Outward Bound Trust is the original and leading facilitator of experiential learning in the outdoors.
The charity runs courses and expeditions in the UK for young people aged 11-24. Courses last from 3 days to three weeks (www.outwardbound.org.uk).
Outward Bound® for young people is delivered at four residential centres across the UK – Ullswater and Howtown in The English Lake District, Loch Eil in Scotland and Aberdovey in Wales – and through the Metro project (urban) in Glasgow and Scotland’s Central Belt (www.outwardbound.org.uk/Education/Downloads).
The Outward Bound Trust also facilitates Apprentice Development and currently works with some of the UK’s largest companies on their apprentice programmes.
In 2009, over 25,000 young people benefited from an Outward Bound® experience. Over half of these participants were financially supported by bursaries raised by The Outward Bound Trust through private donations and in conjunction with its corporate partners, as part of the Patron’s Company scheme.
The charity also works with volunteer groups across the UK called Outward Bound® Associations, whose members have mostly experienced Outward Bound®, and they source participants from local schools in their areas and help fundraise for their courses. These volunteers include Youth Reps, fresh from their Outward Bound® experience, who provide advice and support for other youngsters (see www.myspace.com/outwardbounduk).
