Summer Slimming

Future Fit Training take a look at 5 easy ways to get the beach body you’ve always dreamed of.

Keeping active is essential in maintaining a healthy body and mind, however as demand on our time increases, fitting in exercise can sometimes become a challenge.

The government drive to tackle the nation’s fitness recommends a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity at a moderate intensity per day, on 5 or more days of the week. Regular trips to the gym and attending exercise classes are a sure-fire way to keep fit.

However, for those days when you’re short on time, we have a few ideas on how to reach the right level of activity which can easily be fitted in. And with summer here and lighter evenings to enjoy you can take the activities outside.

You could even break your 30 minutes a day into 3, 10 minute sessions and still see the benefits – here are a few ideas how:

1
Walking – a great way to get active and it’s easy to fit in to your day. Try parking your car a little further away from work, set aside some of your lunch break to take a walk with colleagues, or even take the stairs instead of the lift. Why not get a pedometer to monitor the steps you take – it can be a great motivator and even challenge you to improve your count each day.

2
Skipping – a great way to improve your heart and bones as well as flexibility and co-ordination. It’s great fun to do and depending on the intensity of your workout a typical 10 minute session could burn between 70-100 calories.

3
Love your chores – Let’s face it, the house has to be cleaned and the lawn has to be mowed so why not make it fun. Put on your favourite music and a spot of energetic cleaning could really burn some calories. For instance, vacuuming, window washing or dancing while you dust could burn off 65 calories in just 10 minutes, while 10 minutes gardening could burn up a further 78 calories.

4
Get active with the kids – If you have kids there’s a whole host of activities you could do to stay fit and active – go for a bike ride, play football, use a trampoline or even fly a kite. If you plan an activity with your kids every weekend you are keeping the whole family active and having fun too.

5
Dancing – whether you choose to bop around your living room, popularity means it’s easy to find classes in your area. Its great fun to do and if you enjoy it you’ll soon smash you 10 minute target. Attending a class will help keep you motivated and provide a great opportunity to make new friends.
