Steve's PT Session - The Abdominal Roll
Added:Sun, 8th November 09
Have you ever worked out with the Exercise Ball? It is probably one of the most versatile bits of gym equipment - and you can use it so easily at home too! There are literally hundreds of exercises you can do on the exercise ball, and each and every one of them will improve balance, posture and co-ordination.
The abdominal roll is another fabulous core exercise using the unstable environment of the ball to help strengthen core muscles including the hard-to-get-to muscles (such as the TVA and erector spinae).
This exercise is not recommended if you have lower back problems.
1
Place your hands on the ball in front of you, arms parallel. 2
Pulling your belly button towards your spine and tightening your torso, slowlyroll forward, rolling the ball out as far as you can without arching or straining the back. 3
Push the elbows into the ball and squeeze the abs to pull the body back to start.
Repeat 5 times to start with, gradually increasing to 10.
