Instant Hamstring Flexibility

Flex it out with a partner!

The following stretch offers a partner-assisted alternative to reduce any tightness or over activity of the hamstrings. This will assist those of you who work in an office and may experience tightness in the back of your thighs. This will help to improve flexibility in this area.

Set up

  • Partner A - lie face up on the ground

  • Partner B - kneel by partner A and place one hand under their heel and the other hand behind the fold of the knee.

  • Action - Passive lift

  • Partner A - to relax 100% and allow your leg to be lifted into position

  • Partner B - push into the knee with one hand while pushing the heel towards the ceiling (the knee will initially bend before straightening)

  • Active push down

  • Partner A - push through your heel (use 30% max effort to push straight to the floor), until your leg is resting on the floor

  • Partner B - resist as Partner A pushes heel into your hand – Adjust resistance to maintain around max 30% from Partner A.
  • Repeat 10 reps: 10 lifts and 10 pushdowns
