Mums on the Run are Off to Greece

Korin and Sasha choose different ways to get Bikini Body Ready - Yoga and Boxing

At this time of year as holidays and thoughts of stripping down to our bikinis loom, we all want to get in shape. So what better time to get motivated and try something new?

Us Mums on the Run are off to Greece very soon now, so we decided to get bikini body ready to feel super confident on the beach!

We thought it would be fun to try two contrasting exercise techniques between us which would enable us to compare the benefits. Plus our ideas of a ‘good work out’ vary somewhat - a bit like our personalities!

Korin´s For Yoga

‘Knowing the fantastic benefits of Pilates, I have always fancied getting my teeth stuck into some hard core Yoga training. I knew there were many similarities between the two techniques, but as I am in my third week of training at Tri Yoga in central London www.triyoga.co.uk I now realise how very different they both are and yet how well they complement each other’.Says Korin

Sasha´s For Boxing

‘I’ve decided on something a little more aggressive and less serine and have taken up boxing’! Says Sasha. ‘My trainer Sammy Cantwell (an amateur boxer From Bexleyheath) and his family are close friends of pro boxer Ricky Hatton. His Dad Michael is a 2x AB National Champion who has won the British Flyweight boxing title, so I knew I was in good hands’

The First Few Weeks for Korin

‘After just my first week I really felt a huge difference with regards to strength and tone. There are a variety of classes to choose from, including Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga , Baby Yoga, community Yoga and also Pilates. I am taking Vinyasa and Ashtanga classes twice a week, which are both very similar from what I can tell so far and extremely dynamic. The classes flow from one exercise to the next without stopping which encourages fluidity and helps build on overall fitness and strength.

So far I am thoroughly enjoying my classes (I actually look forward to going which is always encouraging!) and I’m loving the effect the training is having on my body! I also find that it makes me want to eat healthier too. There’s a great little Organic fast food cafe called Leon on Carnaby Street too where I sometimes treat myself to some of their delicious sweet potato falafels’. Says Korin

The First Few Weeks for Sasha

‘We do 1 hour sessions twice a week, which is really easy to fit in time wise, and for anyone who just wants to get toned and a higher level of fitness that is more than enough. It’s quite intense and non-stop, but I always feel like I have worked out. We do lots of endurance stuff in ‘minutes’ and I can safely say that when your continually punching a punch bag, or beam jumping or doing steps, it will feel like the longest minute of your life. But remember it’s all for the greater good. We incorporate a lot of core work too which is essential for boxing, and amazing for toning up.

I have already noticed a difference in my body shape, and my legs and arms are so much stronger already. I have lost 2lbs too, which may not seem that much, but boxing builds muscle tone so weight loss wasn’t going to be major. However, Inches are dropping all around, I have lost 2 inches on my waist AND my bum... woohoo!! It gets your mind going too as remembering combinations of punches while you’re constantly punching is not as easy as it seems. Boxing has been hard work but it’s fun too. I never get the feeling of dread knowing I have to go, and my body feels and looks a lot fitter. 4 weeks in and boxing’?Says Sasha
