Female Lifestyle Case Study - Week One - Getting Started
Famously Belle Emily Takes on the Challenge of No More Bat Wings and Thunder Thighs!
Session One in the Gym

Calm Before the Storm!
Steven said from the outset that he wasn’t going to work us too hard on this first occasion (calm before the storm and all that!). Instead he wanted to gauge our fitness levels, our strength and our goals for the future.
Weigh In and Measurement
The two things I was most nervous about were getting on the scales (I didn’t really want to confirm how much weight I’d gained) and having my fat bits measured (this really is a bit shameful).
Steven was the one in charge of the tape measure and he was so fit and toned I found myself giving excuses as to why I had let myself get so tubby and unfit. Getting all our measurements taken though really does get you motivated to make a difference; it gives you a starting point to improve on from week to week. Steven advised us that he would be repeating our fitness tests, body measurements and weight monthly to monitor our development. If anything is going to motivate this certainly was!!
First Impressions
My first impression of the gym environment was good; it wasn't hectic like many gyms so made the whole experience fairly calm and productive. Steven was patient with us both but also managed to push us at the same time.
Testing
We spent this first session doing strength tests, endurance tests and flexibility tests; all this information would help Steven make a suitable program for each of us to follow in the coming weeks. It was really nice to have this session together with Stu….we each wanted to impress the other so kept going the extra mile. It would be such a life changing experience if we could get into the habit of exercising together and enjoying it.
Session Two in the Gym
My next session with Steven was by myself and was much more challenging.
We spent about 40 minutes doing weights which I really enjoyed; I also spent about 30 minutes jogging too. This second session with Steven gave me some ideas of what Stu and I can do on our own when he is not at our sides.
At this point I am still really enthusiastic about what lies ahead. Our commitment to exercise four times a week is definitely achievable….
The Next Big Challenge
The change in diet and nutrition will be the next huge challenge. I have been recording my food and drink diary for the last 2 weeks and am keen to find out what I can do to improve this (aside from the obvious of cutting down on the booze which I promise to do). We have had a huge box of USN supplements arrive at our door, I have never taken any food supplements or sport nutrition before so the thought of incorporating these products into my diet does make me a little bit nervous but I have an open mine and will do whatever is going to help me at this stage. I’ll update you next time to let you know how I get on.
Bye for now….
