There Is More to Being a Sun Goddess than Firming and Toning Creams!

When it comes to looking good on the beach this summer, there’s only so much a ‘figure control’ swimsuit and firming and toning creams can do to turn you into a sun goddess! Jennifer Irvine takes the strain on healthy eating for the summer.......................

Whether you're planning a trip to an exotic, far-flung destination or enjoying a ‘stay-cation’ in the British countryside, the hot weather provides the perfect opportunity to catch some rays.

Inevitably, this involves showing off our bodies a little more than we might like through squeezing ourselves into last year's swimsuit. Unfortunately, if you've spent the winter months snuggling up with a hot chocolate on the sofa, it's possible your body won't be as beach ready as you had hoped.

There Is Only So Much Toning Creams Can Do!

When it comes to looking good on the beach this summer, there’s only so much a ‘figure control’ swimsuit and firming and toning creams can do to prepare your body. The only real way to change your outward appearance and boost your inner confidence is to become more aware of the food you put into your body and tweak these to make small changes for the better.

Breakfast a Must for a Sun Goddess!

Many people think that you will lose weight if you skip breakfast, something which couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, you might even put on weight as you will find you eat more than you otherwise would in the afternoon to compensate for missing a meal. Breakfast kick starts your metabolism in the best way possible; leading your body to burn more calories in the day so is a must for potential sun goddesses.

Summer Berries

If you’re bored of cereals and toast and want to try something a bit more exciting which makes you want to get up in the morning, then why not try fresh summer berries, live natural yogurt and granola muesli?

Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries all contain powerful antioxidants and combined with the granola and natural yoghurt will leave you feeling full until lunch. Adding pieces of pineapple is good for digestion and helps with water retention to leave stomachs de-bloated and beach-friendly!

Summer Abundance

Eating healthily is always slightly easier in the summer; when the sun’s out you’re already wearing fewer clothes so are more body conscious and unlike the winter season, the hotter weather makes you inclined to eat smaller meals. With summer comes an abundance of fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables – raspberries, strawberries, cherries, rhubarb, asparagus – which makes lighter eating more appealing due to the huge variety which is offered.

Figure Friendly Salads

It’s definitely a good time to experiment with filling fruit smoothies, or adventurous Mediterranean salads which you can pack full of super foods.

A figure-friendly yet delicious lunch option such as Chicken and Asparagus Salad is a great combination of protein, carbohydrates and vegetables. The naturally occurring Vitamin E in the asparagus is great for helping to maintain healthy skin, giving you a radiant glow.

Drinking lots of water is also vital in the summer months as not only does it keep you hydrated, it’s also a useful trick to test whether you’re genuinely hungry or not as it makes you feel full.
