Meet Athletic Tom - FamouslyFit´s Cheeky Little Chappie

Hi. My name is Tom Gentry and I have joined the FamouslyFit team to encourage our younger readers to take part in all sports to lead a healthier and better lifestyle, so that when we get older we can all be as fit as my dad who is now in his 50’s.

Who is my dad? Well he is FamouslyFit’s martial arts guru and feature writer Dave Gentry. Ha! He’s always looking at himself in the mirror, and say’s strong>“Do you think I look fit Tom?” What a show off! “Yes dad”. But I will say he is a great teacher in martial arts and has taught me so well that I am now a Black Belt in kickboxing.

I was born in Middlesex just outside London on the 17th April 2000. Woo…. I was a millennium baby. I am currently 11 years old and to be honest quite buff for my age as I participate in so many different sporting activities.

My aim through my forthcoming articles will be to inspire my entire readers/fan club to be actively participating in any kind of sport to keep fit. I also intend, with the aid of Auntie Ann Mather (Celebrity Nutritionist) for all children like myself to become more aware of the right foods to eat. To be honest us kids eat too much junk food, pizza, chips, cakes, crisps and of course fizzy drinks. Not good! I eat well for my age - plenty of good proteins, loads of vegetables – I even love cabbage! And always drink plenty of water.

Over the coming months I intend to cover many things including the whole range of sporting activities that young people can participate in, my achievements in my sports, and good nutrition for us kids. I am going to have the chance to interview up and coming future sporting stars along with current stars. No holes barred! I will ask the questions that us kids need answering.

    Better Breakfast Campaign

My dad has been telling me about the great work our FamouslyFit ambassadors (Lee Latchford Evans, Kerry-Lucy Taylor, John Thompson, Holly Mathews and my old dad) have been doing. When it comes to kids the work they have been doing is fabulous - going around schools in the country promoting The Better Breakfast Campaign, which is sponsored by the government.

Basically the ambassadors visit various schools around the country and talk about healthy eating and encourage the children to become more active in sports. What a great idea as us kids tend to aspire to become like celebrities. Ha, ha! My dad a celebrity? Funny! I really hope this continues. Us kids need good guidance from you adults. And you never know – they may just turn up at your school one day.

    My Sports

The sports outlined below are the ones that I am involved in at a higher level. Other sports that I enjoy are football, rugby and skateboarding. I wouldn’t say that I am the best in everything but I do try hard. The one thing that active sports have given me is a healthy body.

    Kickboxing

I have trained in kickboxing since I was 5 years old and recently earned my Black Belt. I love martial arts and will be training in Muay Thai and Ju Jitsu in the very near future. I need to expand on my skills. Martial arts give me confidence, discipline and respect for others.

    Swimming

I swim for my local club called Sea-Byrd’s of Hillingdon Borough and have participated in many swimming galas. I was encouraged to take up swimming again at the age of five and train four times a week. It is hard work but it has given me a great 6 pack. At each swimming gala I take part in I am bettering my personal best times. My favorite stroke is the breast stroke.

    Cross Country Running

I love cross country running and mini marathons and have run many times for my school.

Due to my good times I have been picked to run for my local London Borough of Hillingdon. My dad helps me train for this, but to be honest I tend to lap him. Ha! He told me he is fit - guess he does his best for his age!

    Cricket

During the summer months I play cricket for Ickenham Cricket Club in Middlesex. I guess I am an all rounder as I bowl for my team and also can bat quite well too. I notched up a few wickets this year and had a good batting season scoring some good runs. I train twice a week in the summer months.

Keep Smiling! Stay Healthy and Fit!
