Skin Care

Spring clean your skincare regime

Mild spring weather means that your skin is no longer fighting against the elements, or going from extremes of central heating hot to outdoor chill.

During this time your skin often feels calmer and it tends to behave more predictably than usual – this is the best time to get back to your skin care basics and find the right products for you to enjoy healthy, beautiful skin.

1Cleanse

The most important step of your skincare routine is cleansing and it’s all too often overlooked. Cleansing is essential for removing makeup, and the everyday build up of dirt and grime that can lead to clogged pores and dull skin, no matter what your skin type.
The best cleansers available are those that leave your skin squeaky clean, with no traces of residue. We love Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel (£15.66 for 125ml), containing Marula oil.

Simply massage the gel into skin, paying more attention to problem areas, then rinse off with warm water. The gel cleverly turns itself into a milk on contact with the water and skin is left boyfriend noticeable soft (and when your boyfriend notices the difference, you know it’s good!).

You can enhance your daily cleanse by using a muslin cloth to remove your cleanser, they are gentle enough to exfoliate skin on a daily basis and keep skin looking fresh. Eve Lom Muslin Cloths are not the cheapest on the market (at £12.23 for 3) but they are touted as some of the best.

2Tone

Toners work to remove any last traces of cleanser, prepare skin for moisture and bring clarity to skin. Avoid all products with alcohol in them as alcohol not only strips skin but the astringent effect can tighten pores too much, locking out the essential moisture and nourishment you want to put back in.

Shiseido The Skincare Hydro-Nourishing Softener (£27.50 for 150ml) is a fabulous product, it contains ingredients that work to mimic the skins natural moisture magnets and helps to bind moisturise within the skin, it’s also gently exfoliating to clarify.

3Moisturise

Always remember to feed and nourish your skin with moisturiser. If you’ve ever just left skin after cleansing and toning, you’ll quickly notice that the texture changes, it feels tighter and dehydrated (the root cause of fine lines), so keep skin feeling plumped and nourished with moisturiser. One of the most well known moisturisers around, is also one that skincare companies benchmark against – and don’t worry it’s not going to break the bank. Oil of Olay Total Effects Day Cream and Night Cream (each £16.63 for 50ml) are coveted by a loyal fan of devotees of all ages. The cream has a gorgeous non-greasy texture and plumps skin.

Great skin is as simple as 1, 2, 3 – cleanse, tone and moisturise
