Changing Seasons

Skin Care is Not Only for Women!

After a warm ‘Indian summer’ - the autumn has arrived. Seasonal changes, particularly the transition from summer to autumn brings with it the need to hydrate and protect skin. As the season changes our skin faces the elements, including windier and colder weather and central heating which causes skin to dehydrate.

Skin care is not just for women! So for the fellas, here is what you can do to hydrate skin and protect it from the elements...

Keep drinking water

When it’s hot and sunny we frequently reach for cooling drinks throughout the day - it’s important to keep up the habit of drinking water into Autumn. You should aim to drink 2 litres a day, and if you don’t fancy ice cool water try drinking it at room temperature. If you prefer hot drinks, try a fruit infusion - limit your intake of caffeine and sugar for a healthier option.

Moisturise

If you don't yet moisturise after shaving - now is the time to start. Shaving is harsh on the skin and leaving it unprotected against the elements will increase the chances of irritation and dry, rough patches. Try Clinique M Lotion (£19.50 for 100ml) to rehydrate skin or M Protect (£21 for 100ml) contains and SPF 21 to protect skin during the day.

Moisture-Eyes

One of the first places skin dehydrates is around the eyes, this shows as lines and wrinkles and although laughter lines can be sexy on a man, you don't want to age before your time. There are loads of multi-functional eye products specifically formulated for men - try Shiseido Eye Soother (£34.50 for 15ml). A little goes a long way and this product targets dark circles, tiredness as well as dehydration and lines.

Remember your hands

Autumn can take it’s toll on hands as they are just as exposed to the elements as your face is. It may not feel manly to buy hand-cream, but take it from us men with rough hands aren't a good look either. Try Neutrogena 'Norwegian Formula' Concentrated Hand Cream for around £3.50 for 50ml. This product works really well, is affordable and has been cited 'best' product in previous years by some of the UK's leading beauty magazines.
