That time has come again that we are all ready thinking about a healthy start to the New Year, what will it be, a new gym membership? An aerobics class? A yoga class? The new dance craze, zumba classes? A boxercise class or a martial arts class?
Burn It Fast!
If it is to be a martial arts class, you cannot find anything better than kickboxing lessons, due to the fact that you can burn up to 800 calories in an hour session. This is excellent for you if you are intending to lose those pounds you put on over the Christmas period. Better still, you are burning the calories using a combination of cardiovascular and muscular training!
Cheap is Not Always Best!
If you decide to take up kickboxing you need first to think about purchasing the right equipment for the sport. Remember cheap is not always best. Quality and protection for the user are paramount. It amazes me that it takes students so long to get their gloves when participating in kickboxing. If you take up football, you need a football. If you take up hockey you need a hockey stick. So if you take up kickboxing you need your own gloves and other equipment like focus pads, shin and foot protection. When teaching I carry a few pairs of gloves and focus pads around with me just in case, but normally get "they stink!". Well of course they do, with so many people using them! Very un-hygienic as you are sharing someone else’s sweat! Yuk!
